iMasons was established in 2016 on the West coast USA. In order to scale, and deliver the platform globally, iMasons is establishing Local or Regional Chapters.
There are issues that face the industry that can be better addressed collectively – and iMasons is the platform to coordinate and focus this effort. Global iMasons initiatives, such as bridging the talent gap and addressing diversity and inclusion can be more effectively executed regionally by iMasons who understand the dynamics of that region.
This inaugural meeting of the So. Florida Chapter will be held April 19, within the eMerge Americas conference being held in Miami Beach April 18 and 19. Registrants for the iMasons Local Chapter meeting will gain limited access to the conference. eMerge Americas is focused on the LATAM market and this Local Chapter meeting will have the LATAM market as a backdrop.
Chapter Meeting Topics: SPAC Funding and iMasons Sustainability Initiatives
SPAC Funding
Special Purpose Acquisition Companies, or SPACs, have risen as an alternate source of funding to the traditional IPO. SPACs raised a record $82 billion in 2020. We are now beginning to see this vehicle used in the data center industry, with Cyxtera going public in 2021 through an acquisition by a SPAC, rather than through an IPO, resulting in an initial valuation of Cyxtera of $3.4 billion. Join Mitch Fonseca, COO of Cyxtera, to hear about that experience and the prospects for SPAC funding in the data center industry.
iMasons Sustainability Initiatives
The second focus of the meeting will be iMasons Sustainability Initiatives. Both hyper-scale and global enterprises are driving for change, insisting on a more sustainable and carbon-neutral future. Currently, there is no standardized measure as to what constitutes a “sustainable data center”, nor is there a scale to measure a data center’s progress in achieving sustainability goals. The iMasons Sustainability Committee has developed a Sustainability Data Center Framework which provides an industry best practice for building and running a sustainable data center.
The Framework was developed by the IM Sustainability Management Committee and will be workshopped at all IM Chapters in 2022 to leverage the brainpower of the Global membership – all feedback will be submitted to the IM Sustainability Committee for review / inclusion.
