iMasons at OCP 2019: EDJX
There are no shortages of approaches to building out the edge! One of the more interesting approaches is the project announced at the 2019 OCP Global Summit, backed by 6Fusion, called EDJX. EDJX plans to create a business ecosystem around edge deployment in which no one party owns the solution. Using a serverless mesh network, EDJX is creating an ecosystem in which the users of the edge compute resource pay for its use, and the beneficiaries are the owners of the servers used, and the landlord who hosts the servers and pays for power and fiber connection, all mediated without a central authority using blockchain technology.
EDJX also announced a partnership with Sesame, a new project of ITRenew, the largest IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) company. ITRenew already has contracts with most of the hyperscalers to dispose of their end-of-life servers, most of which are being obsoleted after less than 2 years of use. They are functionally equivalent to new gear. The Sesame project refurbishes those assets and makes them available for purchase, in small or large quantities. EDJX is taking that one step further by using those refurbished assets to build out their serverless mesh network. The hyperscalers retain ownership of the assets so they get income from what were previously just scrapped assets.
Watch this video to hear John Cowan, CEO of EDJX, and James Thomason, CTO, lay out their vision for EDJX, and decide for yourself which technology will come to rule the edge.
